GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A Grand Traverse man could be out more than $9,000 from a suspected scam.

The 64-year-old man said he alerted police Tuesday.

Police said the victim got a text from Apple saying there was a $118 charge on his account and to call if it wasn’t his.

The man then called that number and someone claiming to be from the Huntington Bank fraud department answered.

The person on the phone said the victim's account was compromised and he needed to withdraw $9,200 from his account and convert it to bitcoin.

The victim said the caller on the other line said he would get his money back.

Investigators said the victim followed those instructions and even provided a receipt.

Officials said no money was reimbursed and the victim was advised to contact Bitcoin to file a fraud report.
