Tokyo-listed Metaplanet is not selling its bitcoin, according to CEO Simon Gerovich, who moved quickly to shut down speculation sparked by a large on-chain movement.

Routine custody, not a sale

On Wednesday, blockchain data trackers flagged the movement of 5,014 BTC, worth roughly $320 million at spot prices, from wallets tied to the firm.

That prompted speculation the company was preparing to offload the coins.

Gerovich addressed the reports directly:

“We transferred 5,014 BTC between Metaplanet custodial addresses over the past 24 hours. This was a routine custody operation. No bitcoin was sold, and our holdings remain 43,000 BTC.”

Treasury firms under scrutiny

Corporate bitcoin holders are facing closer attention from investors watching for any sign that large balance sheets are being trimmed to lock in gains or reduce risk.

The sector is led by Strategy, whose recent activity has fueled some of that anxiety.

The company has been selling portions of its bitcoin to fund dividends on its preferred stock, buy back STRC preferred shares and rebuild its U.S. dollar reserve.

In its most recent disclosure, Strategy sold 1,690 BTC and raised $653 million through MSTR share issuance.

Market backdrop

Bitcoin was trading near $63,900 at the time of the denial, slipping toward $63,500 as traders looked past the latest CPI print toward upcoming Federal Reserve decisions.

Metaplanet’s 43,000 BTC position keeps it among the largest corporate holders globally, and Gerovich has repeatedly framed accumulation, rather than distribution, as the company’s core strategy.
