Trump Media, Crypto.com Scrap Digital Token and Prediction Market Plans

Trump Media and Crypto.com have scrapped plans involving a digital token and a prediction market, according to citybiz. The excerpt does not provide details on why the initiatives were abandoned or whether either company may pursue similar products later.

Points Clés

  • 01 Trump Media and Crypto.com had been linked to plans for a digital token.
  • 02 The companies have also abandoned plans for a prediction market.
  • 03 No reason or timeline for the decision is provided in the excerpt.

Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. and Crypto.com have abandoned a series of planned cryptocurrency initiatives, including a digital asset treasury focused on Crypto.com’s CRO token and a proposed prediction market integration with Truth Social.

The companies ended an agreement announced last year to create a digital treasury company that would acquire billions of dollars worth of CRO. They also dropped plans to make prediction market contracts available through Trump Media’s Truth Social platform.

In addition, Trump Media and Crypto.com canceled an arrangement under which Crypto.com would have provided services for certain planned exchange-traded fund offerings.

The pullback comes amid a more challenging environment for digital assets. Bitcoin has fallen sharply from last year’s highs, while investor enthusiasm for publicly traded companies built around accumulating large holdings of cryptocurrencies has cooled.

“After analyzing these proposed ETFs and DAT from every angle, we’ve reached the same conclusion: moving forward under current market conditions doesn’t make sense,” Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek said in a statement.

Marszalek said Crypto.com will continue pursuing other ETF opportunities and intends to find alternative uses for the CRO that had been committed to the proposed digital asset treasury.

The decision comes as Trump Media pursues a broader transformation of its business. In December, the company announced plans to merge with privately held fusion energy developer TAE Technologies Inc. in an all-stock transaction valued at more than $6 billion. The companies said shareholders of Trump Media and TAE would each own approximately half of the combined company following completion of the transaction.

An earlier version of the merger plan contemplated spinning off assets including Truth Social, but the companies said in June that they were no longer pursuing that transaction.

Trump Media has continued looking for ways to commercialize its social media platform. In July, the company announced plans to sell real-time access to posts from what it described as Truth Social’s “highest-ranking” accounts.

Crypto.com, meanwhile, recently secured a $400 million investment from Citadel Securities LLC in a transaction valuing the cryptocurrency exchange at approximately $20 billion.

Trump Media did not immediately comment on the termination of the Crypto.com arrangements.
